4: Weekend Tour – Scottish Borders 14th to 17th September 2012
For this tour we ride to the Scottish Borders staying near Peebles which is located on the River Tweed and is just 23 miles south of Edinburgh. The stay is for 3 nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast is buffet style with hot & cold selections, whilst Dinner is in the restaurant where you will be able to choose from a 3 course set menu (3 choices per course). The hotel has an indoor pool, a mini-gym, spa bath and sauna and you can even indulge in a game of croquet if you were so inclined (pymms would be optional!).
Where to begin with suggestions of where to ride, what to see and what to do in this wonderful part of the world is a difficult one, but our base at Peebles offers great variety whether it be a trip into Edinburgh to visit the Castle which you could do on the bike or alternatively there are regular buses running from Peebles, the journey can take approx 1 hour but then you are on holiday so what’s the rush!
Head south of Peebles towards the fantastic Kielder Forest Park and visit Kielder Water. Take in the harbour town of Dunbar on your return. We also have a shortish circular route which will lead you from Peebles to Aberlady and the Myreton Motor Museum which has both cars and motorcycles on exhibition (there is an admission fee). From here you can ride to Coldstream, Kelso, Melrose, Galashiels and back to Peebles.
For a full day ride out we will head south west towards the Galloway Forest and the Mull of Galloway - the Southern most point of Scotland, taking in Drumlanrig Castle on route. The scenery varies from mountains to valleys, forests to coast all to be enjoyed on some fantastic roads.
